Year of Project: 2014
While on exchange for Canada I was working part time at research initiative called REAP thanks to contacts I made through my studies at Waterloo University. One of my tasks was working on the Avavox project as a developer / 3D artist / Animator. The concept was to create a virtual greeter (3D model) that users can interact with via gestures using Kinect for Windows. The kinect would detect when a user is in view and the user could then select from menu like options using hand gestures. In response to the menu the avatar (virtual greeter) would speak to the user using pre-scripted responses. A 3rd party developer did the Kinect development in a separate app and used web sockets to communicate between Unity and a Flash application.
Target Platform: PC
Content: The 3D model was an open source asset but I rigged and created all the animations myself. I also did most of the Unity scripting while a 3rd party did the Kinect development.
Aim: To create a prototype for a virtual greeter that could be used for Museums, Theatres etc.
